About Me

I am a geochemist exploring the biogeochemical cycling of iron, phosphorus, and carbon. I study the weathering processes in the river basin. The geochemical processes involved in weathering, riverine transportation, flocculation, precipitation and biological transformation of the elements in the ocean is of great interest to me. By studying these interactions, I try to link the geochemical processes responsible for the paleoclimate of the Earth recorded in the marine sediments. The interaction of the elements with their environment depends on their speciation - the physicochemical forms in which they occur. Therefore, the study of speciation of biologically active major and trace elements in the sediments and natural water to investigate their role in the global carbon cycle is my main focus.

Linking the speciation of the biologically active elements with global carbon cycle is essential to understand the past and prediction of the future. During the early career, I have worked on linking external (solar) and internal (CO2) feedback mechanisms on Earth's climate by studying the iron redox cycling in the seawater, and phosphorus burial in the continental shelf. Now I am interested in unravelling how these feedback mechanisms are modulated and amplified by continental weathering to account for the observed climate change on the Earth.

I am also interested in the geochemical cycling of aluminium and silicon. The biological importance of silicon is known. However, the biogeochemical cycling of aluminium is not yet understood. The aluminium cycle is closely related to silicon, phosphorus and sulphur, and it has the potential to influence the biogeochemical cycling of carbon.
