Outreach

I have collaborated with a non-governmental organisation (Environment With People's Involvement & Co-ordination in India, Coimbatore; CIN-U92330TZ2002NPL010185) and got involved in the establishment of Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) textile wastewater treatment plants in Tirupur between the years 2003 and 2008. As a result, the Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) got introduced for the very first time in India by ITT Industries, UK. I have independently completed the design of "Collection and Conveyance System" for effluent transport from the member units of the Common Effluent Treatment Plant and return of treated water.

Besides, I have helped students in their dissertation and the establishment of the Nature Interpretation Centre at Kovai Kutralam. During this time, I have authored articles on the social and technical issues surrounding textile wastewater treatment, and they were made available to the community through www.scribd.com and in industrial magazines. Some of the articles got attention in the scientific literature.

Later, the wastewater treatment industry continued to engage me as an independent consultant until I moved to Anna University of Technology, Tiruchirappalli. In academia, I have utilised the knowledge obtained in the wastewater treatment industry and supervised several student dissertations on wastewater treatment. During this period, I have developed methods for wastewater treatment using bimetallic catalysis and experimented with the use of iron nanoparticles.
